Governor Greg Abbott celebrates Manufacturing Week in Harlingen
HARLINGEN, TEXAS (October 4, 2023) - The Harlingen Economic Development Corporation (EDC) was delighted to host Governor Greg Abbott at ITD Precision Stampings, one of the many manufacturing plants in Harlingen, Texas.
The purpose of Abbott’s visit was to tour the facility in celebration of Texas’ manufacturing industry in the global marketplace.
"Manufacturing is a vital sector of commerce that has quite literally built Texas as we know it," said Abbott. "We are proud of what our manufacturers do for our state, our economy, and our families."
After his tour, the governor ceremonially signed a proclamation recognizing October 2-9, 2023 as Manufacturing Week in Texas.
Abbott also congratulated the Harlingen EDC for recently securing a $1.6 million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to develop a new industrial park and acknowledged Harlingen for being named one of the top cities in the U.S. for small businesses.
“Part of the reason why we have that success is because of local economic development teams like what you have in Harlingen,” said Abbott.
Harlingen's economic development team extends their gratitude to ITD Precision for making the governor's stop a shining success.
“Governor Abbott’s visit to Harlingen is testament of our community's incredible growth and manufacturing innovation happening right in our own backyards," said Harlingen EDC's CEO, Orlando Campos. "We have some amazing manufacturers doing great things and helping our local economy grow."
The visit kicked off a number of initiatives planned for Manufacturing Month, Campos expressed. An industrial bus tour for job seekers is scheduled this month in partnership with Workforce Solutions Cameron, as well as many surprise gifts for local manufacturing teams.
Throughout October, the Harlingen EDC invites businesses and residents to join them in celebrating the local manufacturing sector and its contributions to the economy. Recognizing the meaningful and sustainable employment opportunities in the industry will play a big part in growing the workforce of tomorrow.
