About 25 minutes eastbound on Expressway 83 is Sunrise Mall in Brownsville, TX. The regional mall has major stores such as Bealls, Dillard’s, Sears, JC Penny and much more. A Cinemark theatre is also located inside the mall near the food court. The shopping center is surrounded with other specialty stores and shopping plazas.

Heading westbound on Expressway 83 is nearby McAllen where you can find La Plaza Mall. The mall is also home to numerous major retail stores, along with smaller specialty stores. The area is also surrounded with numerous shopping plazas, coffee shops and great places to eat.

Harlingen Corners
Harlingen Corners is developing into the next great shopping destination in Harlingen. The $33 million, 375,000-square-foot shopping center already boasts a Kohl’s Department Store and Logan’s Roadhouse restaurant, and Marshall’s, Bed, Bath & Beyond and Famous Footwear are among the six additional stores already planned for Harlingen Corners.

 

Across the Border – Shopping in Mexico
The Rio Grande Valley hugs the Mexican border – allowing Harlingen residents and the rest of South Texas easy access to Mexico. Just a short drive away, the other side of the border has numerous Mexican restaurants with truly authentic Mexican dishes. International Crossings
Harlingen and Rio Grande Valley natives have the convenience of entering Mexico through three different International Crossings. The Progreso/Nuevo Progreso International Bridge, Brownsville-Matamoros Bridge and the Pharr/Reynosa International Bridge allow easy access into Mexico for hours of shopping and more.

Nuevo Progreso
Nuevo Progreso is perhaps the closest International Crossing from Harlingen. The town has many excellent restaurants all in the midst of numerous outdoor shopping carts filled with arts and crafts, Mexican candy, food and snacks and much more. And with a bar on almost every corner, you can enjoy domestic and imported beers, or a tasty mixed drink.

Matamoros
This Mexican city near downtown Brownsville has great shopping areas where you can find bargains on almost anything. Reynosa
Slightly further away from Harlingen is Reynosa, which is McAllen’s sister city on the other side of the border. It’s a modern-day metropolis of 750,000 and a great place to spend a few hours bargain hunting at one of the many local stores, eating great, authentic Mexican dishes or enjoying a drink or two.
