Pocket Communications Selects Harlingen, Texas!

Pocket Communications, a San Antonio, Texas-based wireless voice and data service provider, announced today it has selected Harlingen, Texas as the location for its flagship customer service center.

The firm has leased an 18,000 square foot building at 6906 West Expressway 83 in Harlingen to house its customer service operations. Pocket plans to employ 260 people at the center by the end of 2012.

Pocket currently operates a retail store and small customer service center at 2617 South 77 Sunshine Strip. The 80 people employed at that location will relocate to the new center.

Pocket Communications began operations in San Antonio in 2006 and expanded its service area to include the Rio Grande Valley and Laredo in Texas. Future plans call for the firm to expand to other Texas markets and nationwide.

Pocket defined its market by providing prepaid, flat rate, unlimited use wireless services within a local calling area without requiring a service contract. The firm has invested over $100 million to build its network and currently has over 280,000 customers.

Paul Posner, founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Pocket Communications, said the Harlingen location was selected “because of the outstanding work force available in Harlingen and the willingness of City and economic development officials to help the company grow. We have been very pleased with our operation here and believe Harlingen can accommodate growth as our business grows in the future.”

“We are excited that Pocket has selected Harlingen as the location for its flagship customer service center,” said Jim Springfield, president of the Harlingen Economic Development Corporation. “This project helps us achieve several goals, including assisting existing business with expansion and creating higher paying jobs,” Springfield concluded.

Construction to remodel the new facility will begin soon. Pocket Communications hopes to make the new customer service center operational before the end of the year.

Harlingen, Texas is located at the “crossroads of the Rio Grande Valley,” a gateway to international trade. The Valley has a population of 1.2 million in the United States and nearly 1 million in Matamoros and Reynosa in Mexico.
