Tyco Flow Control Groundbreaking

Harlingen, Texas – April 22, 2010 –Tyco Flow Control, a business unit of Tyco International Ltd. (NYSE: TYC), broke ground today for their Harlingen, Texas facility expansion. Tyco’s nearly $5 million dollar investment will add 33,000 square feet to their existing 80,000 square foot facility in the Harlingen Industrial Park.

In January 2009, Tyco began considering the consolidation of two existing plants. The Harlingen Economic Development Corporation worked with the company since that time to secure the expansion for Harlingen. Sixty-five (65) new jobs will be added to the 120 jobs currently at Tyco in Harlingen. The new positions at Tyco will include machinists, machine operators and welders.

The Harlingen facility began operations in 1984 under the name Keystone Valve/Anderson Greenwood Company. Tyco celebrated its 25th anniversary in Harlingen last year.

Ed Rushing, vice president of operations of Tyco Flow Control, was on hand on February 3, 2010 for the expansion announcement. He acknowledged Harlingen’s positive business climate and the work of the Harlingen Economic Development Corporation were factors in their decision to expand in Harlingen. “The City of Harlingen and the Harlingen EDC have done a tremendous job making Harlingen an economically attractive place to do business,” Tyco’s Harlingen plant manager Will Smyth said, “We are looking forward to a long, prosperous relationship between Tyco and the City of Harlingen,” Smyth concluded.

Terry Ray Construction of Brownsville, TX has been awarded the contract for the construction of the addition. The new plant configuration will incorporate lean manufacturing principles; eliminating the seven wastes in manufacturing: overproduction, unnecessary transportation, inventory, motion, defects, over-processing and waiting.

"We are pleased Tyco has selected Harlingen for this expansion. They have been an important part of our community for over a quarter of a century” said Harlingen Mayor Chris Boswell. Harlingen Economic Development Corporation vice president Scott Allex said, "Tyco made a wise decision in expanding this facility in Harlingen. Harlingen takes care of its existing industry and helps them grow."

The expansion will allow Tyco Flow Control to provide four product brands, including industry-leading valves and controls, services and other solutions to customers in more than 60 countries.
