The Harlingen Economic Development Corporation (HEDC) participated in the Matamoros Maquiladora Association Trade Show held on May 21 and 22. The trade show is held each year to bring the Maquiladoras and their major suppliers together in order to network, find suppliers and customers and to showcase companies and products.
This year, the HEDC partnered with Spring Dynamics which recently opened a plant in Harlingen. It was an opportunity to introduce Spring Dynamics to the Maquiladora Association and for Spring Dynamics to give a first hand account of their experience working with the HEDC in establishing their new facility in Harlingen.
Rob Boles, Vice President of Sales and Engineering with Spring Dynamics, was introduced to a representative of an intricate metal stamping operation headquartered in Illinois. As was the case with Spring Dynamics, the stamping company has expressed interest in expanding to be closer to their customer base in Mexico. Rob explained that the HEDC was crucial in their decision to come to Harlingen. He said that every time they needed something, the HEDC was there to help them meet their needs. Because of its central location in the Valley and the great recommendation from Spring Dynamics, Harlingen will be considered for this new location.
The Governor of Tamaulipas, Eugenio HernᎤez Flores, attended the show. Governor HernᎤez said he expects the economy to recover soon, led by quality firms like those attending the show. The show also provided an opportunity to network with economic development officials from the State of Tamaulipas, the local labor unions and economic development agencies in the region.
