Harlingen, TX "Fact File" Wins Award

The Harlingen “Fact File,” a community profile in the form of a file folder, has received a “Merit Award” in the Literature and Promotion Awards of the Southern Economic Development Council (SEDC). The “Fact File” was developed by the Harlingen (TX) Economic Development Corporation (HEDC).

The “Fact File” is a snapshot of the Harlingen economy featuring information on population, the labor force, income, location, transportation, education, retail sales, cost of living, education, healthcare and a variety of other factors.

“It’s a real thrill to have our marketing materials recognized by a major professional organization like SEDC,” according to Bill Martin, Chief Executive Officer of HEDC.

Other winners in the “Community Profile” category were Tulsa, Oklahoma and Orlando, Florida. “It’s nice to know we can successfully compete with much larger communities,” Martin continued.

The “Fact File” is designed to be used with up to 18 inserts, featuring more detailed information on specific subjects and available site and building flyers. The “Fact File” was first used in mailings to 850 site location consultants and regional and national commercial and industrial realtors. “The uniqueness of the ‘Fact File’ really caught their attention,” Martin concluded.

The SEDC is an organization representing over 1,000 professional economic developers from 17 Southern states. Bill Martin served as Chairman of the Board of SEDC in 1996-1997.

Harlingen, Texas is located at the “Crossroads of the Rio Grande Valley,” a gateway to international trade. The Valley has a population of 1.2 million in the United States and nearly 1 million in Matamoros and Reynosa in Mexico.
